Feral donkey control

Feral donkeys compete with stock for feed and water, damage fences and water points, and add to erosion in larger country.

Feral donkeys in dry, stony outback country

The problem and the damage

  • Competing with livestock for feed and water.
  • Damage to fences and water points.
  • Overgrazing, bare ground and erosion.

Why act early

Feral donkeys are long-lived and herds keep growing if left alone. Starting control early stops the pressure on your feed and water building up.

Best time to act

Dry periods, when donkeys gather around water, can make control more effective. We plan timing around your season and stock.

How we control them

Ground shooting by a Category D licensed shooter, day or night. We only target unowned, feral donkeys on land where we have permission.

All work follows the Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Pest Animals in NSW and NSW firearms laws. We never target native species.

Before we start

  • A site risk assessment covering boundaries, houses, roads, stock, neighbours and native wildlife areas.
  • A written agreement setting out what we will do, where and when, before any work starts.
  • Safe areas and times agreed with you. We ask you to tell us where stock and people will be.
  • No unauthorised people on site while we are working.
  • All equipment supplied. You do not need to provide anything.

How we work, step by step

Who it's for

  • Farms
  • Rural landholders
  • Councils
  • Golf courses
  • Schools
  • Industrial sites

Where a site is close to people, such as schools, golf courses or industrial sites, work is planned around safe times. If shooting is not suitable for a site, we will tell you honestly.

Neighbour programs

Feral animals do not stop at the fence. When neighbouring properties book together, we can plan one coordinated program across the boundary, which usually gives better results for everyone. Ask about group pricing.

Questions about feral donkey control

Do you remove owned donkeys?

No. We only target unowned, feral donkeys on land where we have the landholder's permission. We confirm this with you before work starts.
